S.M.A.R.T. phones require no external power other than a phone line, and are self-testing, using Telephone Management Application (TMA) software to identify and report faults. In addition, TMA software allows polling of phones on a regular basis for call reporting, and can even be programmed remotely to change emergency numbers.
