This video discusses the basic operations of the CHANCE Auto-Ranging Voltage Indivator (ARVI) to aide in compliance with OSHA 1910.269. The ARVI is a critical tool to aide in the safety of working conditions of utility workers across the globe. As demonstrated in the video, the unit is built to safely attach to the universal fitting at the end of a hotstick of appropriate length relative to the expected voltage class. It is then placed in contact with the conductor (power line) to determine its voltage class, and if it is energized or de-energized, prior to maintenance. This voltage tester is a field intensity meter that is calibrated to read approximate line-to-line voltage when directly connected to any phase conductor. The ARVI can be used in overhead as well as underground residential distribution (URD) systems. The voltage class is indicated by a brightly lit LED and audible beep. When properly used with an appropriately maintained hotstick, this unit allows a lineman to adhere to the Minimum Approach Distance (MAD) for safe work practices.
