Hubbell Partners with Meralco on Smart Meter Supply Contract

Two-year agreement supports initial phase of 12-million-endpoint deployment in the Philippines
SHELTON, CT — February 19, 2026 – Hubbell Incorporated announces that its joint venture, Aclara Meters Philippines, Inc., signed a two-year supply agreement with Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) to deploy about 72,000 smart meters for the initial phase of MERALCO’s 10-year advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) program. The deployment will support MERALCO’s grid-modernization initiative covering about 12 million endpoints.
MERALCO selected Aclara meters because of their proven track record of accuracy, reliability and strong total cost-of-ownership performance. Aclara Meters is well established in the Philippines, having maintained local manufacturing operations and served MERALCO for more than 45 years. As part of Hubbell, Aclara brings the support of a global leader in utility solutions, reinforcing MERALCO’s modernization goals with technology backed by deep industry expertise and a long-standing commitment to reliable, grid-ready innovation.
“This initiative is a transformative step for MERALCO — enabling enhanced customer engagement, operational excellence and improved grid resilience,” said Ronnie L. Aperocho, executive vice president and chief operating officer at MERALCO. He added, “This infrastructure investment positions the utility to deliver stronger service quality to support the Philippines’ digital transformation.”
The deployment will provide MERALCO customers with real-time energy-consumption data, faster outage response through automated detection, and improved billing management. The two-way communication infrastructure also enables enhanced network planning, proactive fault management and future integration of distributed energy resources.
Gregory Gumbs, segment president of Hubbell utility solutions, emphasized Hubbell’s commitment to helping utilities modernize critical infrastructure. “We’re proud to support the Philippines’ energy-sector transformation through our proven technology and local expertise,” Gumbs said.
Hubbell will deploy Aclara I-210+c and kV2c smart meters — the same proven models used across North America — featuring scalable, multi-vendor architecture with IPv6 connectivity. With about 20 million Aclara meters deployed on Itron networks worldwide, MERALCO will benefit from a flexible, vendor-agnostic infrastructure that supports multi-sourcing. This approach also will provide long-term cost efficiency and operational agility throughout the 10-year program.
