The DHC-R cutout is designed to protect overhead lines against temporary faults. Specially feeders supplying energy to rural communities , hospitals and all loads that do not allow long service interruption. The majority of overhead lines failures are temporary and remain for few seconds and generally are caused by lightning, small animals, trees and etc. These faults met fuse link and open the cutouts producing interruptions that can continue for hours particularly in the rural areas. The DHC-R switch is composed by three cutouts and in the initial condition the current flows through the first one only. In a short circuit the fuse link melts causing the drop of the first fuseholder that makes the mechanism transfer the current flow to the fuseholder in the middle. Remaining the fault the process will repeat transferring the current to the third fuseholder. In case of temporary fault only the first cutout will operate and the system will be reclosed by the second one.
