00:08Hubbell TAYMAC has added another option to our line of large capacity,
00:12weatherproof in-use device covers with the extra duty Jumbo MM7420.
00:18At five inches deep. it's our deepest non metallic cover yet.
00:21And it has our patented adapter system which covers 55 different device configurations.
00:26Plus it's lockable with a full size padlock for safety reasons.
00:30The national electric code requires that all device covers in a potentially wet location
00:35must be rated extra duty and be weatherproof while the cord is still plugged in. With a
00:40standard size cover, remaining weatherproof just isn't possible when plugging in a bigger
00:44cord or perhaps multiple cords at once. This is a growing concern with the rise in
00:49popularity of electric cars which typically use a much larger plug.
00:52The MM7420 is a prefered solution for this and many other situations that routinely or even
00:58occasionally need to handle a bigger plug or perhaps multiple thicker cords at once like for
01:04pools and spas or RV hookups.
01:06Today, I'm going to run you through a typical install of the MM7420. As with any electrical
01:12work, make sure the power is off at the breaker here.
01:15I've got a regular two gang bubble cover. Back when it was installed,
01:19it met the weatherproof in use requirements.
01:21But starting in 2014, an extra duty rating is required on these covers.
01:25So while I'm at it, I can upgrade the plug capacity as well as the rating. First,
01:30I'll remove the old cover.
01:35The MM 7420 includes mounting screws, an attached gasket instructions and adapter plates
01:42for various devices.
01:44It comes preconfigured with two duplex openings, but if installing on a different shaped device
01:49like GFCI, toggle switches or round receptacles, then I would simply use one of the included
01:54adapters. There's even an adapter so that this two gang
01:57assembly could be flush mounted to a one gang box.
02:01Simply remove the pre installed adapter configure the base per the instructions and
02:05snap the appropriate adapter into the backside.
02:08We're installing over duplex devices. So we don't need to change the adapters.
02:12This circuit's already GFCI protected upstream, so there's no need for one at this location.
02:17Covers include indentations to be drilled out for use in alternate box mounting.
02:22There are also device mounting holes but will be box mounting directly to the electrical
02:26device, which is preferred because it's a faster easier install start by backing out the
02:32four device screws about 3/8 of an inch.
02:35If installing on a rough surface, apply a quarter inch bead of silicone calk between the
02:39gasket and the wall surface. Align the key holes on the base with the screws,
02:45then slide the base over the device and fasten the screws.
02:49Compress the gasket by tightening the screws until snug, but be careful not to over tighten.
02:55And that's it. The installation is complete for continuous use.
02:59Snap out the desired cord ports. Direct the cords through the port and close the cover,
03:04ensuring the latch snaps shut and that's all there is to it.
03:07The device is now protected and meets the latest electrical code even with a large cord
03:11plugged in. So there you have it.
03:14The MM7420 is a code compliant innovative solution when capacity for larger plugs or
03:20multiple cords is a contributing factor.
