00:09The MM420 the new Jumbo depth MM720 are designed for weatherproof protection while an
00:14outlet is in-use. Unlike a common flip cover, a while in-use cover can have a cord left plugged
00:20in and remain weatherproof in wet locations. The 2014 National Electric Code has new
00:25requirements that affect what type of cover can be installed on outdoor 15 and 20 amp
00:30receptacles. Basically all receptacles in a potentially wet
00:33location require a while in-use cover and it needs to meet the new UL extra duty rating.
00:39First generation bubble covers weren't rugged enough to meet the extra duty rating.
00:42So the MM420 was completely redesigned to meet the extra duty requirement.
00:47Plus we've added in some other enhancements, like the patented easy change pin which allows
00:51for easily switching the cover to a horizontal mount. A reusable cord port insert,
00:55so if desired, the port can be closed to keep out the elements or insects.
00:58A clear window for easy visual inspection of the inside,
01:01for bugs, an unplugged cord or a tripped GFCI and a larger locking latch that now fits a full
01:07size padlock. I'll be installing the MM420C which has a clear cover.
01:11Both the 420 the 720 are available in gray.
01:15Either option can also be painted to match a house or trim color.
01:18Each cover includes mounting screws, an attached gasket, instructions and adapter plates
01:23for mounting to various devices. The covers come preconfigured for a GFCI sized
01:27opening. But if installing on a different shaped device
01:29like a duplex receptacle, a toggle switch or a round receptacle,
01:33just use one of the included adapters, simply remove the pre installed adapter and snap the
01:38appropriate adapter into the backside of the base.
01:41We'll be installing over a GFCI, so there's no need to change the adapter.
01:45Of course, as with any electrical work, make sure the power is off at the breaker.
01:49Covers include indentations to drill out for alternate box mounting.
01:53There are also device mount holes but we'll be mounting directly to the electrical device,
01:57which is preferred because it's a faster easier install. Start by backing out the device screws
02:02about 3/8 of an inch.
02:05If installing on a rough surface, apply a quarter inch bead of silicone caulk between the
02:10gasket and the wall surface, align the key holes on the base with the screws,
02:14then slide the base over the device and fasten the screws. Compress the gasket by tightening
02:19the screws until snug be careful not to over tighten.
02:22That's it. Installation is complete for continuous use,
02:26remove the bottom cord, port, insert and direct the cords through the port and close the cover
02:30ensuring the latch snaps shut the MM420 the MM720 both can be mounted horizontally also.
02:36But to ensure a weatherproof installation, the easy change pin needs to move to the alternate
02:40location. This way, the cover closes downward which
02:43prevents it from inadvertently getting left open.
02:46The pin may be tight. So if necessary, push the tip of the pin with a
02:49screwdriver to release it and simply pull it out from the other side,
02:53then insert the pin into the other hinge until it snaps in place.
02:56Now ready to mount horizontally in the same manner as the vertical install again,
03:00like before, remove the bottom cord, port, insert and direct the cords through the port
03:04and close the cover, ensuring the latches snap shut.
03:07That's all there is to it. The device is now protected and meets the
03:10latest electrical code.
03:13If you don't already have a receptacle installed or if it's old and outdated,
03:16then look for one of our code guard combos that include the latest weather resistant and tamper
03:21resistant receptacle or GFCI. complete kits are also available that include
03:25a weatherproof Bell box. So for any of your outdoor electrical needs,
