00:01Hello and thank you for taking the time to watch this video on motor and generator high
00:06voltage testing. My name is Ali Sherry and I'm an international
00:11sales engineer at Hypertonic, the leading manufacturer of high voltage testing systems.
00:18Today, we will be talking about motor and generator, high voltage testing before we get
00:24started. If you have any questions regarding this
00:27presentation, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at sales at hypersonics.com.
00:35We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
00:40Now without further ado we will go over the agenda for this presentation.
00:47Today. We'll be talking about basic definition for
00:50electric motors and generators.
00:53What are the industrial uses?
00:56Uh the applicable high voltage tests and affiliated standards for uh motors and
01:01generator testing.
01:03Going over DC, high blood testing, ac, high blood testing,
01:08insulation resistance and polarization index testing and performance test.
01:15We will go over what uh hypertonic equipment we offer for high voltage testing and motors and
01:21generators. Uh starting with the 800 BL series,
01:27the 700 D I series, the TSR and the MTs
01:35starting with the basic definitions for motors and generators,
01:39a generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
01:44While a motor does the opposite, it converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
01:50The applications for electrical motors mainly include flowers,
01:54fans, machine tools, bumps and turbines.
01:58While generators can be seen in power stations to generate electricity
02:06for every motor and generator, there are two essential components.
02:11The ser and the rotor, the state is the stationer bart as the name suggested.
02:18In contrast, the rotor is the rotating part.
02:22Both stater and rotors are covered in insulation that prevents short between winding
02:29as well as from the conductors to the grounded uh frame.
02:34Moving to the applicable tests and standards. We will be first looking at the DC Hypo and DC
02:41Hypo testing. The DC hypothesis are modeled after AC
02:46hypothesis. Thus, a DC Hypo test voltage is often derived
02:52from a typical AC Hypo test voltage which has proven to work well.
02:58The AC and DC IPOD tests follow the following standards.
03:01The I trouble E 95 112 and 114 IEC
03:08634 ESA er 100 nema mg one.
03:15It's a one minute test unless specified or unless the specified test voltage of the unit
03:20is less than 2500 volt, a one second test at a 1.2 times.
03:27The specified one minute test is allowed.
03:31The two tables on the right shows that this voltages for new machines and used
03:38machines are spare. The standards moving to the IR and P I test.
03:46The insulation resistance and polarization indexes of an electric motor or generator have
03:52been regarded as a useful tool in evaluating its winding for the build up of dirt or
03:58moisture or the duration of the insulation.
04:03The I trouble E standard number 43 covers the procedure for determining insulation resistance
04:09and polarization index. In details the insulation resistance reading
04:15are taken after the test voltage has been applied for one minute.
04:20At the same time, the polarization index is the ratio of 10 minute insulation resistance tests
04:28to the 1 m insulation resistance test.
04:31It's common to take reading at one minute, 1.5 minutes, two minutes,
04:37three minutes up to 10 minutes.
04:40Table one on the right shows the guideline for direct voltage to be applied during the
04:47insulation resistance test. While table three shows the recommended minimum
04:52values of polarization index for insulation per thermal class.
04:56Machine components, different efficiency tests are called by different
05:03standards like the I AAA 95 112 and 114 the IEC
05:09634 ECR 100 Neo MG one uh test like the Nolo
05:16test which is the same um as the open circuit test performed on transformers
05:23vibration test, sand level test.
05:26Uh On the right hand, uh figure 7-6 or dash six shows the
05:33machine vibration limit from San industrial motors to precision motors with
05:40special requirements as it can be seen on the right diagram,
05:47the connections are made to the stater. This is often done in a game test where the
05:52three phases are tied together.
05:55Uh This will allow to find the faults between the theater winnings and the grounded
06:02frame. Um uh For this test, the rotor may be in place
06:09or removed. The DC test is the same connection as uh the AC
06:15test. Once the test is completed, the whining under
06:21your test have to be discharged.
06:24Moving to the P and AD A R test.
06:30The P I or polarization index is a metric used to determine the health of insulation of
06:37hone motors and generators.
06:40P is the ratio of the mega homes after 10 minutes divided by the mega homes.
06:46After one minute. A ratio of 2 to 1 is the minimum recommended
06:54for suitability for the surface or implementation of high blood testing.
07:00Any values below 221 should be concerning.
07:05On the other hand, the the electric absorption ratio is another metric for
07:11determining the insulation health.
07:15It's the ratio for mega ohms at one minute divided by the mega ohms at 30 seconds.
07:23When the measured leakage current stabilizes within one minute,
07:27operators usually use the DAR test if this happens the 10 minutes P I
07:34test is useless because the ratio is one values for
07:41DAR and P I use for evaluating the insulation conditions are
07:48anything less than 1.25 DAR value.
07:53The insulation condition is questionable for any dar that's between
07:591.25 and 1.6.
08:02The insulation condition consider good for any DAR value over 1.6.
08:10This is an excellent insulation condition.
08:13On the other hand, for any value for any P I value
08:20between one and two, it's a questionable insulation condition.
08:262 to 4 P values.
08:29The insulation condition is good.
08:31Any P I value over four, you have an excellent insulation condition.
08:38After discussing the applicable high voltage tests and affiliated standards,
08:43we now shift to what hydronic offer for motors and generator testing.
08:49Starting with our 800 PL series.
08:53The DC Hypo for motor and generator is very common for two major reasons.
08:59First, the capacities of motor generators can be difficult to determine because more
09:05capacitance means greater current draw.
09:09In other words, it could build more current than an AC high bar unit can supply.
09:14Also DC hybu system can test any size load.
09:21The second reason is that because the DC Hypo is much smaller in size and lighter in weight
09:27compared to other ac high bots which make it easier to transport to remote locations.
09:36Our 800 BL series is ideal for testing large motors and generators that have very
09:43large capacitance because of the robust grounding scheme and the automatic quick damp
09:49feature for safe discharging.
09:52The 800 PL series come with multiple safety features for a very safe operation such as
09:59an E stop on the front panel, hand switch foot switch interlock options are also
10:05available safety stroke option to alert operators of high voltage.
10:13The 800 P series can also automatically calculate the P I.
10:19Another great feature is the programmable automatic mode which allows
10:26users to create their hypo step voltage testing program
10:33for AC hypo testing.
10:35Our 700 dash D I series can provide enough current to test most motors and all but the
10:42largest generators, some of the great features of the series offer,
10:47it can perform ac high blood testing from five KV to 400 KV and up to
10:53300 K VA, it comes with high accuracy with plus and minus
11:001.5% of reading and plus and minus
11:050.2% of all scale.
11:10The series can operate from 0.5 to 100% of the rated al voltage.
11:18The 700 dash D I offers programmable test procedures and it can be possible to integrate
11:25it into almost any lab or production facilities.
11:30The series can be controllable via onboard touchscreen controller or a PC software or
11:37remote commands. The 700 dash D I series offer automatic digital
11:44data acquisition for easier collecting, storing and saving data.
11:50The 700 D uh dash D I is also safety integrity level three compatible.
12:01The 700 dash D I series also offer a great low noise, high voltage source for partial
12:07discharge measurement with the optional item for an elbow level of less than two PC.
12:15The series also can be integrated into 10 delta measurement systems and the continuous to
12:22recycle option is available.
12:26The series also offer mobility option for mobile testing and the galvanic isolation
12:32option is also available for the 700 dash D I series.
12:38Moving to our resident test systems. The TSR our tank type series resonant into
12:45systems which can be used for applied AC test on generator windings and can be built
12:52into a single enclosure to maximize portability in the factory on the site.
12:59The TSR is used for large capacity loads and micro Ferres range.
13:05The TSR can test full as simple windings and it can utilize energy storage properties,
13:13higher voltage and current output versus inbound.
13:18The TSR can come with lower Q factor versus resonant systems used in other
13:25applications due to the losses in the circuit when testing generators.
13:33Some of the unique features the TSR offer are the following all in one cap and a closure
13:39like seeing on the picture on the right.
13:42The cabinet include the regulating transformer, the exciter transformer,
13:49the high voltage reactors and the required capacitors and base loads.
13:54Other features like sewage or burial re operations, oil contaminant provisions,
14:01thermal protections and vibration daming provisions on these slides.
14:08We can see some of the typical generator ratings for voltages we can,
14:14it can be seen in from 230 volt up to 15 KV
14:22with winding capacitance between 300 nano ferat to four micro Ferres.
14:28For the AC test voltage, it should be two multiply by the nameplate voltage plus 1000
14:34volt where the current can be calculated as to multiply by pi
14:42multiplied by the frequency multiplied by the device and their testing capacitance
14:49multiplied by the test voltage.
14:53On this slide, we can see some of the TSR models.
14:56Hyper electronics offer other voltages and current ratings are also available based on the
15:03customer testing requirements.
15:06Another great solution we offer here in hydronic is the motor test systems.
15:12The MTs is an electrical control measurement and power device used to sort a multi
15:18horsepower single phase polyphase and DC motors.
15:23The NTS measures electrical and physical parameters while the motor is running at a
15:28determined R PM.
15:31On this slide, we can see the four different motor types starting with the AC induction
15:37where the seder winding is energized from an AC source.
15:42If the load increase, the speed decreases.
15:46The second type is the AC synchronous where the armchairs uh winding is energized from an AC
15:52source and its field winding from a DC source.
15:56It always runs at a synchronous speed and the bending of the load.
16:01The third type is the AC attraction with a variable frequency drive.
16:08It adjusts speed by changing frequency.
16:12The last SAG is that DC motors was C and chant series is always better for high
16:19torque applications where the shunt is better for precise speed control.
16:26On this slide, we can see the efficiency test hydronic MTs system can perform,
16:33they can run motors to their name play value.
16:37The MTs can measure line to line voltage and current watts,
16:41temperature, power factor R PM and vibration.
16:49The table here shows the technical specifications for some of our standard MTs
16:55systems. The model prefix MTC applies to system one to
17:01systems with both AC and DC testing capabilities.
17:05Motor system with AC capabilities only the DC specifications in the gray shaded
17:12area is eliminated and model prefix changes to MT A
17:19larger and smaller units may be available upon request.
17:25Our NTS comes with the following unique features using PV T.
17:32You will have a pure sine wave over the entire range of output.
17:37A remote control comes as a standard feature.
17:41They also offer duty cycles designed to meet motor testing requirements.
17:48After talking about some of the systems and solutions we offer here in hypersonics for
17:53motor and generator testing.
17:56We will be now looking for some common questions on hyper testing.
18:01The first question is does high blood testing damage a good winding?
18:05The answer is no maintenance.
18:08High blood tests do not introduce any significant degradation in a machine with a
18:14good insulation. The second question is when to apply a hypo
18:20test. The answer is hypo test should be used as an
18:24acceptance and quality assurance test on new winding maintenance program should include high
18:31blood tests and should be tested every 3 to 6 years.
18:36The third question is, what tests should we consider easy or DC ipods?
18:43The answer is AC hypo tests are prepared for new machines but either hypo
18:50test is better than no high B test.
18:55In conclusion, high voltage testing can tell you a lot about a generator of motors condition
19:01and integrity. The most common test that manufacturers and
19:05service groups must do is a high voltage. A CD electric with dentist.
19:12The test involves applying an ac voltage to a rotor or stater winding to verify it can
19:18withstand a specified ac voltage.
19:21This will not only confirm the quality of the new generator or motor but it is also a useful
19:28test to verify the insulation condition after a generator or motor has already been installed.
19:34Also, a CD ELECTRIC testing is a common high voltage test performed.
19:41There are many other tests done for quality checks and preventive maintenance purposes.
19:47These other high fater tests include power factor testing,
19:52insulation, resistance, no load and load testing.
19:57And of course, the DC Hypo testing here in hydronic.
20:03We offer the largest variety of generator and motor testing equipment on the market.
20:09Hydronic can provide the necessary high voltage test equipment to all generator and motor
20:15manufacturers, service and maintenance companies and those in the hydro and mining
20:22industry where generators and motors are used frequently.
