En février 1968, Hubbell a breveté la première prise de terre isolée. Aujourd'hui, alors qu'un sol propre et sans bruit est plus important que jamais, Hubbell reste la référence. Hubbell utilise une construction de barrière isolante sur de nombreux modèles pour isoler les contacts de terre de la sangle de montage. La vis de mise à la terre verte est connectée directement aux contacts de mise à la terre. De cette manière, les contacts de terre sont séparés de la sangle de montage ainsi que du système de mise à la terre conventionnel. Le circuit de terre isolé est complété en faisant passer un fil de terre isolé dédié depuis le bus de terre du système jusqu'à la vis de mise à la terre verte.
