00:04The PSG 553 R AC cable. Gland consists of six key components,
00:11entry multi single seal, diaphragm, reversible armor clamping ring,
00:17middle nut with patented tightening guide and back nut.
00:21This dual certified cable Gland is designed for use with all types of elastomer and plastic
00:26insulated cables including armored braided and unarmed cable types.
00:34The PSG 553 R AC is especially suitable for cables that exhibit cold flow characteristics
00:41are not effectively filled or have hydroscopic fillers.
00:45Assembly instructions are provided with Hawk cable glands or can be downloaded by the Hawke
00:50website. Allow sufficient length of cable to suit the
00:54equipment that the cable is being terminated into strip the outer sheath and cut the armor
01:00to enable connection of the conductors to the terminal.
01:04Remove a further 20 millimeters of outer sheath for cable glands os to a size and 25
01:10millimeters for B to C size.
01:16First strip the inner sheath back to the end of the armor or braid to allow for the multis
01:21single seal diaphragm to seat inside the spigot, remove any fillers,
01:27plastic or coatings present in the cable if required, prepare any drain wires or
01:33screens as per assembly instructions. 2028 slide,
01:39the back nut, middle nut and armor clamping ring onto the cable
01:49ensure that the orientation of the reversible armor clamping ring is correct with the
01:54arrowhead indicating the correct armor braid or tape pointing to the equipment.
02:00Always refer to the Hawk assembly instructions for guidance on the correct armor clamping
02:04orientation. Please note that alternative rings may be
02:07required if the cable doesn't fall within the R ac standard clamping range,
02:12spread the armor or braid by gently pulling it away from the inner sheath of the cable.
02:17A screwdriver may be required for larger types of cables.
02:20Slide the spigot over the cable, push the armor or braid up to the spigots,
02:26shoulder and slide the clamping ring up to the armor or braid by hand,
02:31ensure the multi single seal diaphragm is removed from the assembly,
02:35slide, the entry over the cable and slide the middle nut up to the entry and hand tighten,
02:42support the cable to prevent it, twisting,
02:51grip the entry with a spanner or wrench and use a second spanner or wrench to tighten half to
02:57three quarters of a return unscrew the middle nut.
03:02The armor clamping ring should now be locked in place.
03:06Visually inspect the armor or braid has been successfully clamped between the spigot and the
03:11armored clamping ring.
03:13If it isn't satisfactory repeat, the previous step, snip the conductors of the
03:20cable to equal lengths and ensure that any sharp edges are removed,
03:27snip the seal at the required cut point for the diameter of the cable cores if
03:34the seal is not fully populated, ensure that the seal tips remain in place for any unused
03:39positions. Hawke recommends that the seals are
03:46populated from the center positions first and are evenly distributed as much as possible to
03:52ensure consistent compression, feed each conductor into the
03:59correct seal position.
04:01It is recommended that you use the symmetry of the conductors in the cable and position in the
04:06opening of the correct diaphragm,
04:14push the multi single seal diaphragm down the conductors until it is properly seated into the
04:20spigot. Ensure each diaphragm cone is in complete
04:23contact with the conductor around the full diameter.
04:27If the seal is ripped during this process and the cone is not in complete contact with the
04:32conductor, then the seal must be replaced.
04:36Use a wrench to fit the entry into the enclosure if required,
04:40fit the appropriate IP washer onto the entry thread.
04:44Depending on the enclosure used. The method of installation will vary.
04:49Slide the cable through the entry until the multis single sealed diaphragm is seated
04:57hand, tighten the middle nut to the entry and add the required number of turns with a wrench.
05:02As stated in the assembly instruction,
05:19tighten the back nut until the seal is formed around the cable.
05:24Use a wrench or spanner to apply one further full turn to the back knut.
05:30Use our patented middle nut tightening guide as an indication that the back nut is in the
05:34correct position to suit the cable diameter. Please note that diameter scale is provided in
05:39our installation instructions to help with this process.
05:42Installation is now complete.
