Helical Pulldown Micropiles

Dry Tortugas National Park

Dry Tortugas National Park

Project

Accessible only by boat or seaplane, 70 miles west of Key West lies the remote Dry Tortugas National Park; a military fort built during the civil war which eventually housed a prison. Known as the home of magnificent Fort Jefferson; it is surrounded by water, vibrant coral reefs and protected marine / bird life.

Solution

Access to the fort was the biggest reason why helicals were used. Existing was a seven foot-wide bridge that had both width and weight capacity challenges. In addition, there site headroom restrictions. A traditional auger rig [required for a concrete solution] could not have been used due to its size, vibration, noise disruption, weight, and mobilization requirements. CHANCE® helical piles were an ideal solution.
