00:07The electric motors are used at some point in nearly every conceivable manufacturing process
00:12in modern factories, the national electric code or nec requires motor circuits to include both
00:18a motor controller and a motor disconnecting means Hubbell manufactures one of the most
00:24complete lines of motor disconnects in the industry.
00:27Many people are familiar with Hubble IEC pin and sleeve.
00:31Our connections have always been safe and that hasn't changed.
00:34However, with an ever growing focus on increasing workplace safety and NFPA 70E
00:39compliance, some customers find that a switched connection is the right solution for them for
00:45these customers. More advantages and the most robust horsepower
00:48and environmental ratings are what Hubbell brought to the switch rated market.
00:52The Advantage series is available in 30 6100 AMP versions and made with standard IEC plugs
00:59and inlets from the outside. The Advantage series does not look very
01:04different than a standard IEC device yet. It is rated as both a motor disconnect and a
01:08branch. Let's take a look inside to better understand
01:12what an amazing product. This is unlike our standard pin and sleeve.
01:16The black face is not a solid contact carrier instead, it is a shell which houses a shuttle
01:22that can only complete the circuit by mating with a properly rated plug inside the shuttle.
01:28You can see the continuous ground sleeve which is identical to our standard pin and sleeve.
01:33It is unstitched does not move and fully receives the pin.
01:37The oversized clot ground pin also prevents mating of unlike voltage devices.
01:42You can see that the neutral or phase sleeves are shorter and have a silver contact on the
01:46bottom of the sleeve.
01:48You can also see the significant gap between the contact on the sleeve and the energized
01:53silver contact below it.
01:55The robust disconnect spring is present in the middle of the device.
01:59The shroud of the plug compresses the nose clip, unlocking the shuttle and the ground pin is the
02:04first to mate the pins continue to travel down and bottom out in the shorter face sleeves.
02:11These faces sleeves are not energized yet.
02:14Additional force on the plug moves the shuttle down, loading the disconnect spring and brings
02:19the contacts closer together next. When the contacts come together,
02:23the plug locks in place and the sleeves in the shuttle are now energized causing the led to
02:29illuminate in this state. The plug cannot be removed until the disconnect
02:33button is pushed.
02:35When the disconnect button is pushed, the shuttle is unlocked and the disconnect spring
02:40is released, forcing the shuttle up and breaking the connection between the contacts
02:44and de energizing the sleeves had any arc occurred during the breaking of the circuit,
02:49it would have been safely contained in the internal shuttle.
02:53Now that the sleeves are de energized, the user can remove the plug with absolutely zero chance
02:58of arcing. Thus minimizing any PPE requirements.
03:02The advantage series is now available with multiple auxiliary contacts in a modern
03:08facility. The ability to communicate change of state to
03:11VFDs PLC and other pieces of equipment is more important than ever.
