Protect people and electronics with SpikeShieldâ„¢ surge protective devices
Power surges in residence halls, hotels, motels and nursing homes can damage electronics and pose safety threats to residents.
Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems (HWDK) has updated its line of SpikeShieldâ„¢ surge protective devices (SPDs) with additional products that protect users and electronics from power surges. Install SpikeShield SPDs on the line (Type 1) or load (Type 2) side of a facility's service entrance to safely limit and divert surge currents or transient voltages.
Aging grid infrastructure and frequent natural disasters demand products that maintain reliable power supply and keep residents safe. Installing surge protection devices prevents disturbances downstream while protecting equipment and residents.
The 2020 National Electrical Code® (NEC) 230.67 requires that all services supplying dwelling units, dormitory units, guest rooms and guest suites of hotels and motels, and areas of nursing homes/limited-care facilities/patient sleeping rooms, shall be provided with a surge-protective device (SPD). The code recommends that at least one SPD be installed for whole house protection before the load center.
Surge strips and receptacles are also available to shield users’ devices. Together, this full line of surge products offers a cascading solution from the panel to the branch circuit and point of use. This approach ensures protection at multiple levels throughout the home or building.
