This video discusses the basic operations of the CHANCE Multi-Range Voltage Indicator (MRVI) to aide in compliance with OSHA 1910.269. The MRVI is a critical tool to aide in the safety of working conditions of utility workers across the globe. As demonstrated in the video, the unit is built to safely attach to the universal fitting at the end of a hotstick of appropriate length relative to the expected voltage class. It is then placed in contact with the conductor (power line) to indicate phase-to-phase as well as phase-to-ground voltage, or if the conductor is de-energized, prior to maintenance. Readings are given via the brightly colored needle and in real time via the free Android/IOS compatible app. This voltage tester is a field intensity meter that is calibrated to read approximate voltage when directly connected to any phase conductor. It can be used in overhead and underground residential distribution (URD) systems. When properly used with an appropriately maintained hotstick, this unit allows a lineman to adhere to the Minimum Approach Distance (MAD) for safe work practices.
