Bolt-on SCADA Cellular Modem adds remote communications to the LineDefender recloser

More insight. Fewer truck rolls.

Utilities are working to improve outage response, increase feeder visibility, and reduce truck rolls. The SCADA Cellular Modem (SCM) adds a remote communications option to the LineDefender™ single-phase recloser—helping crews locate transient faults faster and restore power remotely.

The SCM enables critical use cases for utilities such as the ability to set the LineDefender recloser on an instantaneous/sensitive trip setting remotely during red flag days for wildfire mitigation or enabling an alternate profile for seasonal variations on the circuit.

Customers can order the SCM with a new LineDefender recloser or retrofit it to an installed LineDefender device in the field. It’s programmable through GridHUBB™ software—the same user-friendly platform used for the LineDefender recloser—supporting desktop or remote access via USB‑C or IP.

DNP3 versatility

  • DNP3 Level 2 SCADA capability

  • Supports single-point and latch binary output commands

  • Supports class polling, unsolicited reporting, and more

Ease of use

  • Bolt-on, field-retrofittable using four existing attachment points

  • Desktop or remote programming via USB‑C or IP

  • Common GridHUBBsoftware experience for both SCM and LineDefender recloser

Reliability

  • Energy storage to power communications to the recloser up to 4 hours after lockout, including the ability to remotely operate

  • SCM device logging accessible within the LineDefender recloser module in GridHUBB

  • Dedicated DNP points for modem health and status

Remote communication

  • Engineering access to the full user interface through a dedicated port

  • Carrier options include AT&T, Verizon, or private LTE (Band 8)

  • Meets IEEE 1686 cybersecurity standards

Remote visibility and control made easier

Designed for an intuitive utility workflow, the LineDefender SCM helps maintain visibility on laterals and supports faster outage identification and restoration. Using the LineDefender recloser's load harvesting capabilities, crews can use the SCM to restore power remotely when conditions allow—without relying on a power transformer or a separate control cabinet.
