Recloser Bypassing

Experience simple recloser bypass switching

Experience simple recloser bypass switching

Recloser maintenance is easy and economical with the Hubbell BP3 By-Pass Switch. Disconnect a pole-mounted distribution recloser without interrupting service. Our design combines three disconnect switches mounted on a common base. Operating the blades de-energizes and isolates the recloser from the distribution system.

All our bypass switches ship from the factory fully assembled for easy installation on-site. Choose a 4” x 4” steel or optional fiberglass crossarm. The fully welded mount provides maximum rigidity, eliminating the misalignment common with conventional bolt-together designs. The BP3 is available with right or left opening bypass blades.

  • 3-pull switch operation
  • Rated 600 & 900 Amps
  • Voltage Class 15kV, 27kV & 38kV
  • Single and three-phase units
  • Ships fully assembled

The BP3 has many options to choose from starting with pole mount options, loadbreak hooks, backstraps and terminal connectors. Read more about our BP3 bypass switches.

Enhanced system performance and lineman safety

Enhanced system performance and lineman safety

The pre-assembled BP3 switch significantly reduces installation time, complexity, and footprint on the pole, while improving operational safety. No more installing up to seven different switches. Simply hang one switch, make the connections, and you’re ready to operate.

Choose bypass switches rated at 600 or 900 Amps with available nominal voltage ratings of 15kV, 27kV and 38kV. Hubbell's exclusive ESP™ polymer insulators provide lightning impulse levels (or BIL, Basic Insulation Level) from 110kV through 200kV. Presently, the 38kV – 200kV BIL solution is available in a single-phase design. Three-phase applications arrive shortly.

Field-proven high-performance design

Field-proven high-performance design

Our BP3 bypass switch features insulators made of ESP polymer. They provide maximum leakage distance and minimize weight—up to 25% lighter than other designs.

Bypass and disconnect blades made of high conductivity copper are silver-plated at all contact areas. Stainless-steel back-up springs maintain efficient current transfer between the stationary contact and the end of the blade. An angled terminal pad complements each blade for easier connection to a recloser while maintaining maximum pole clearance.
